A CSV to PDF converter is useful when rows and columns need to become a fixed, shareable document. This page lets you upload a CSV file or paste CSV text, select or detect its delimiter, decide whether the first row is a header, set the page layout and inspect the generated PDF before downloading it.
Choose the CSV shape first
CSV is a text format, but the separators and quoting rules still determine whether the table is read correctly. Before exporting, check what the source actually contains:
| Source situation | Useful setting | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Values use commas between columns | Auto detect or Comma | Commas inside quoted text should stay in one cell |
| A European export uses semicolons | Semicolon | The preview should show the expected number of columns |
| A spreadsheet export uses tabs | Tab | Long values may need wrapping |
| The file contains a first row of field names | First row is a header | Repeat the header on later pages |
The converter parses quoted cells and quoted line breaks. It does not treat a comma inside a quoted value as a new column. If the preview shows one very wide column, try the delimiter shown by the source application or choose it manually.
How to convert CSV to PDF
- Add the source. Choose one
.csvfile or paste the rows into the text area. The page accepts files up to 10 MB and previews up to 20,000 rows and 100 columns. - Confirm the interpretation. Use automatic delimiter detection for a normal export, or choose comma, semicolon, tab or pipe explicitly. Turn on the header option when the first row contains field names rather than data.
- Set the page. Choose A4, US Letter or US Legal, then choose portrait or landscape. For a wide table, start with landscape and Fit all columns.
- Adjust reading comfort. Enable wrapping for addresses, notes and other long cells. Keep Repeat header on pages enabled when the table spans more than one page. Use gridlines when the relationship between cells needs to be obvious.
- Review and convert. The page creates planned-page thumbnails before conversion. Select Convert CSV to PDF, wait for the four processing steps, inspect the actual PDF preview and download it when the table is readable.
Headers, delimiters and rows
The first row is not automatically a header in every CSV workflow. A file may
start with data, or it may include field names such as Date,Customer,Amount.
When the first row is a header, the converter gives it a distinct table style
and can repeat it at the top of each generated page. When it is not a header,
turn the option off so the first data row is not repeated.
Whitespace trimming is enabled by default. That removes accidental spaces at the beginning or end of a cell, which is useful for exports with inconsistent spacing. Turn it off when those spaces are meaningful. Empty rows and columns are preserved in the parsed table and reported in the result details, so you can decide whether they are intentional before sharing the PDF.
Portrait or landscape for a CSV table
Portrait pages work well for a narrow list with a small number of columns. Landscape pages give a wide table more horizontal room and are a practical starting point for exports with many fields. Orientation does not remove columns: the Fit all columns option scales the table to the printable page width, while Actual size keeps the estimated column widths and may make a wide table harder to read.
Wrapping changes the height of long cells. It helps with descriptions and addresses, but it can increase the number of pages. If a table is still too small after switching to landscape, reduce the number of columns in the source or create separate reports rather than accepting unreadable text.
Check the generated PDF
The result panel is the source of truth for the file the page created. Check:
- Rows and columns: confirm that the delimiter produced the expected table shape.
- Header behavior: verify that the first row is styled and repeated only when it should be.
- Page count: a sudden increase can indicate long wrapped cells or an unexpectedly narrow page setup.
- Readability warning: wide tables may be scaled down. Open the PDF preview at the size where it will be read or printed.
- File size and encoding: Crisp tables use PNG page images; Balanced PDF uses JPEG page images and may be smaller.
For CSV data that can be represented by the built-in PDF font, the converter draws the table as selectable PDF text and vector lines. If the data contains characters outside that font's coverage, it uses a raster fallback so those characters remain visually intact. In either mode, the output is a fixed-page document rather than a reconstructed spreadsheet model.
Illustrative example: export a customer list
Imagine a CSV with 1,250 rows and six columns: Customer, Email, Plan,
Start date, Status and Notes. Use Auto detect, keep the first row as a
header, choose landscape, keep Fit all columns enabled and turn on wrapping for
the Notes column. The output should preserve the six-column shape, repeat the
field names on later pages and show the long notes within their cells.
This is an illustrative example, not a generated file. The actual page count depends on the text length, selected paper, margins, font size and line spacing. Use the live preview and result report for the values produced by your data.
Scope and alternatives
The base97 CSV to PDF converter focuses on delimited text becoming readable, fixed pages. It does not import XLS or XLSX workbooks, calculate formulas, recreate spreadsheet charts, preserve workbook formatting, render images inside cells, fetch a remote URL or target an exact PDF file size.
Use Excel to PDF when the source is an XLS or XLSX workbook and worksheet or cell-range selection matters. Use TXT to PDF for prose or logs that should remain a text-oriented document, or Markdown to PDF when the source is Markdown with headings, tables and code blocks.
Competitor pages such as Adobe Acrobat's online converter, iLovePDF and PDF24 cover broader document-conversion workflows. Their available formats, upload handling and account or plan limits can change, so compare the current product page with your specific data before choosing a service. This page's concrete scope is the local CSV table workflow described above.
Common questions about CSV to PDF conversion
Can I convert CSV to PDF free online?
Yes. Upload a CSV or paste its text, configure the table and download the PDF from the generated result. The current page does not require a paid conversion step.
Can I make a CSV to PDF in landscape?
Yes. Choose Landscape under Page orientation. Fit all columns is a sensible starting point for a wide table, but inspect the result because scaling too many columns onto one page can reduce legibility.
Why does my CSV appear as one column?
The delimiter may not match the file. Try Auto detect, then choose Comma, Semicolon, Tab or Pipe manually and check the row and column badges again.
Can this convert an Excel CSV to PDF?
It can convert a CSV exported from Excel. It does not open XLS or XLSX files; use the Excel to PDF page for those workbook formats.
Research and editorial notes: Tool behavior was checked against the base97 implementation on October 2, 2026. Competitor scope was reviewed from official Adobe Acrobat, iLovePDF and PDF24 product pages. Search-result order could not be independently verified as a fixed Google ranking, so no ranking claim is made here. The customer-list example is illustrative rather than a measured output.
